Why is there a Visual Studio 2008 ™ error?

Question

I know this thread in which the question limits the source control problems.

In my case, this is more general. From time to time, Visual Studio simply crashes, even without user input.

I usually close all my files and clean my project to avoid further crashes, and I end up crashing again, not knowing why.

Do you have any tips and tricks to avoid accidental crashes?

Edit: I installed SP1, I am running Vista on the Q6600 with 4GB RAM
