How can I offer free ringtones on your website?

I was asked to come up with options for free download ringtones on the website. These will be actual free downloads , and not, “Of course, we have free ringtones, but wouldn't you have these cooler ringtones here for $ 1.99?”, But the actual free ones, download ringtones. Is there a way to provide this relatively globally? Is it as simple as providing a substandard 30 second MP3 that the user can convert? Is there a service that provides this functionality? There are various ways to download downloads based on which media / phone you are using.

  • Sprint - GCD (Generic Content Descriptor)
  • Verizon you must send MMS
  • ATT - depends on the phone
  • Nokia phones need DD (download descriptor)

ringtones vary by phone; some of them require, for example, a MIDI ringtone, but direct download of a short mp3 file is sufficient for most modern phones.
