Ctrl-M characters when transferring SFTP files

I am sending files from a Windows system to a Unix SFTP server using the APAP APAPE client. However, I have the following problem: When loading a text file from windows into UNiX, each line of transmitted text files contains Control-M characters. I did a search and found out that if I use the "ASCII" transfer mode, it should solve the problem. But Ctrl-M still appears in the files.

Can anyone shed some light on this question?

Some text editors have this feature built in. For example, Notepad ++

Do you have cygwin? You can use dos2unix utility.
