I am using Synology DS101j for a home NAS. I “downloaded” it, which includes running a script to configure a ipkgsmall package management program. There are many programs in the registry (maintained by the community, not officially authorized), including SVN, which I am currently running.
To access the Internet, the safest bet (and what I'm doing) is to use svn + ssh with public key authentication instead of password.
Edit in response to comment:
I am pleased with my synology. They quite often discover new firmware, and they still add features and improvements. It is pretty hacked, with pretty decent software that works great along with hacked software.
