How many of you record your historical project data for future evaluations and how do you do it?

When working on a project - I always evaluate my tasks and calculate how much time I need to complete. Therefore, in the end, I get a period of time in which the project must be completed (it rarely happens).

My question is: do you record your data and assumptions in your estimates during the project and use them for subsequent projects or revised estimates in one project?

If so, how do you record such data and how to store it?

I used excel-sheet - but for some reason (I can’t imagine how this happened;)) I usually forget to fill out new assumptions or get information. On the other hand, it is not very readable or useful for evaluating my forecasts after the completion of the project - to learn from it for the next project.

Recently, I talked with a friend about the pragmatic variation of this, or rather, about the possibility of using crude evidence when the code is verified.
