What are the pitfalls of using a shared static WCF proxy client?

I am considering using a shared (read static) WCF proxy client for a high throughput application. I believe that there is a gain in performance in this, but so far I have not appreciated it.

Are there any serious issues with this idea?

From my research, I see that there is a problem handling the failure state, it is not clear which thread affects this waiting state for other requests.

Does anyone have any experience restoring a WCF proxy from its failed state?
