Microsoft SQL Server 2008 External Backup

I would like to keep my backups from my SQL 2008 server to another server location. We have 2 servers:

  • Deployment Server
  • File server

The problem is that the deployment server runs out of space. And we back up our databases for 10 days. Therefore, we need to store our backups on an external "file server". The problem is that SQL does not allow this. I tried to start the SQL 2008 service with an account that has administrator rights on both computers (domain account), but this still does not work.

Any thoughts on this. Otherwise, we will have to put the external hard drive on the rack server, and it seems to be stupid not?

EDIT:

I found a way to make it work. You must share the folder on the server. Then grant the development server (the PC itself) write permissions. This will make external backups possible with the SQL server. I don’t know how safe it is, I find it strange to give computer rights to a folder.

You can use the scheduler to move the backups a certain time after starting the backup using a batch file.

If I remember correctly, there is a hack that allows the sql server to back up to remote storage, but I don't think hacking is the way to go.
