SSH, the command entered, but it was not executed, cannot enter anything

I used the command tar -x file.tar.gzand for one reason or something failed. Then I got stuck in the ability to type something, but I was not able to run more commands. Pressing input just gives me a new line. I do not know how to break out (escape, etc. Does not work). The only way to get the job back is to close the putty and reconnect.

Is there a way to bring it back to normal, so I can keep going because it is annoying, closing it all the time.

On your command line, you will see input on the command line, as others have indicated. You can also use Ctrl-D to point EOF to the tar process.
