Does PHP provide the fopen function to implement some kind of cache?

I am struggling with automated PHP script data collection from a web server. The files in question contain meta data and are updated every 10 minutes. Oddly enough, the date of the “modified file” on the web server does not change.

Simple fopen ('http: // ...') - the command tries to get the latest version of the latest file in this directory every hour. But regularly I get a version up to 4 hours. This happens on a Linux server which (as my system administrator assured me) does not use any type of proxy.

Does PHP support its own caching mechanism? Or what else could interfere here?

(My current workaround is to capture the file using exec ('wget --nocache ...'), which works.)

Since you receive the file via HTTP, I assume that PHP will honor any cache headers the server responds to.

A very simple and dirty way to avoid this is to add some random get parameter to each request.
