Automatically generate ASDF files for a common Lisp project

Are there libraries that do this? When playing with Common Lisp, it looks like this would be one of the most useful things to lower the entry barrier for beginners. ASDF seems to be mainly for deployment, not rapid prototyping and development. The following threads on comp.lang.lisp it seems that people agree that the CL package system is powerful, but does not have the simplicity of something like a simple Python module system. This is FAIL in the sense that it is intended for the inability of power.

Glad to know if I'm wrong. If I am right, I am stunned that no one tried to create a modular Python system on top of ASDF.
