IPC messaging

I am looking for suggestions about possible IPC mechanisms that I can implement in my home-made OS for the AVR32 board.

My current selection uses the massage mechanism described in books written by Tanenbaum.

It's a good choice? Is there an easier way to implement IPC?

My suggestion is to look at the messaging primitives that QNX RTOS (www.qnx.com) supports before making any decisions. I spent several years programming a complex multiprocessor system in this environment, and it stands out as the best message based O / S I have ever come across.
