At the moment, it seems that most webapps store their user data centrally.
I would like to see a movement towards giving the user full access and ownership of my personal information and data; ultimately allowing the user to choose where their data is stored.
As an example, using an application such as facebook, user profile data can exist on any device they own (for example, on their mobile phone) ... facebook then requests data from the user and uses it.
Does anyone see this idea becoming a reality? Is that a funny idea?
UPDATE:
Information, at the very least, should be available for caching. The motivation for this idea was to give the user more control over their own data - the user independently publishes an authoritative version of what they are happy to see in the world.
I imagine a future that is largely dictated by the choices that are made now. Perhaps the physical location of the data is not really important - and this is more of a symbolic gesture ... but I think that the decoupling of the relationship between our information and the companies that use it can be positive.
But maybe the details require a bit more work;)
