How to check if mod_rewrite works

Question

I have a lot of problems with mod_rewrite, and for a while I did it, but for some reason everything stopped working.

Is there some kind of basic test that I can do to make sure that it is not something fundamental.

It is displayed in phpinfo ();

Use the .htaccess file to create some rules. If they do not work, then something is broken :)
