Run index.php, not listing files

Question

I recently reinstalled MacOSX, and at some point (without realizing it) I made the directory without index.html try to run index.php instead. Since then it has stopped working. My local host is running .php files in order; he just does not do it, unless you specifically talk about it.

There are many htaccess manuals on the Internet, but I can not find one that will tell me how to solve this problem: s

I believe this is the DirectoryIndex index.php directive in .htaccess, which will do the trick.
