What is the graphics subsystem for developing a touch screen?

I am starting a hobby project in which I would like to have a touch screen GUI for interacting with a kiosk-like device running on top of Windows XP Embedded. To develop a rich user interface experience, I considered using WPF. However, several of the demos I came across used Silverlight, while I did not see any WPF demos.

As far as I understand, Silverlight was aimed at website developers, while WPF was more focused on desktop development.

So this question has two parts. First, what is the recommended graphics subsystem for developing a rich user interface on a kiosk-like device hosted on the built-in Windows XP platform? Secondly, if it is Silverlight, which version is offered (1.0 or 2.0) and why?

WPF seems to work great on inline ones. See here the second comment.

I think your choice should depend on the type of kyosk you want to build. Some kiosks are just an open browser page. And then you have things like Microsoft Surface that you can use as a horizontal kesk :-)
