How to use Tkinter with Python in Windows Vista?

I installed Python 2.6 for a single user on Windows Vista. Python works fine, but when I try:, import Tkinterit says that side by side the configuration has errors. I tried messing around with the Visual Studio runtime, without any good results. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Perhaps you should upgrade to version 2.5?

This seems to be one of many strange Vista problems and accidentally reinstalling, installing / updating the visual studio environment or some of them sometimes help or disable sxs in the system configuration or write a manifest file, etc.

, Windows XP.
