As a side project, I consider creating a personal financial program. I tried using Money and Excel to track my finances, but was either dissatisfied with stability or lack of features. My question is, what tools did you use to track your personal finances? Here are some requirements that I would like to achieve:
- Stable
- You can automatically download data from banks for free
- It is configured enough to easily create an overall balance from the selected accounts.
I was thinking of using a python script, but really didn't think of it further. What interfaces are available to automatically download account information?
EDIT: Therefore, there seems to be a general consensus that there are many open source tools that can be modified to suit your needs. In addition, many people seem to be satisfied with using Quicken if they are willing to spend some money. Regarding tracking online recordings, mint seems to be the most popular choice.
The only problem with using online systems like mint or yodlee is that there is no easy way to “approve” bank transactions so that you can check your receipts and see if they correspond to expenses.
