Cross-platform encryption / decryption applications for secure file transfer

I have a client that needs a file-based encryption / decryption application to be used between Linux / Windows 2003 Server. The goal is to have one file compressed at night on the Linux platform and protected by a script, transferred via FTP, decrypted on a Windows 2003 server, and accessible by other import routines such as SSIS, etc.

The file may remain unencrypted at each end after transport, the desire is mainly to save the file during transportation. Firewall rules and the fact that IIS6 does not support SFTP excludes SFTP as an option. Simplicity is the main focus here, so you cannot use complex security settings or heavy libraries.

You can try GnuPG , it is a cross platform, and since you only send files internally, you really don't need a certificate signed by a reputable certification authority.
