Is it okay to use normalized tables with denormalized indexed views?

I am currently developing a new application with a high read: write ratio. My current employer, we have a lot of denormalized data on our tables for performance reasons. Is it better to have complete 3NF tables and then use indexed views to do all the denormalization? Should I run queries on tables or views?

An example of some of the things that interest me are aggregates of child column tables (for example, where the message counter is stored).
