How to implement the effect of the ocean surface using OpenGL ES 1.1?

I am working on an iPhone game that runs on the surface of the ocean. Can someone recommend some sample code or tutorials for embedding waves or ripples in OpenGL?

As I write this, iPhone supports OpenGL ES 1.1, so there is no support for shaders or other bizarre effects.

I do not need anything unusual. For example, I do not need reflections. I do not want to overload the device. I just need something like the ocean. (But it would be nice if it looked as good as Koi Pond.)
