Have you ever used Oracle audit features on production db?

How has this affected performance, and are there any differences between different versions of Oracle?

It is clear that you need to audit a large amount of information for Oracle 10.2 FGA in order to become a serious problem. I did not use earlier versions or 11g.

Even for manageability reasons, you need to look at an audit of only the relevant information ... I don’t understand why the CPU / IO load has ever exceeded a few percent compared to the usual use for most enterprise applications.
