Partitioning a SQL 2005 Database for SharePoint

Background

I have a massive db for a SharePoint site collection. It is 130 GB and is growing at a speed of 10 GB per month. 100GB 130GB is in the same site collection. 30GB is a version table. There is only one site - it is by design.

Question

Can I split a database (SharePoint) using SQL 2005s data splitting features (creating multiple data files)? Is it possible to partition a database that has already been created? Has anyone shared a SharePoint database? Will there be any problems?
