Extending Chart Functionality in SSRS

The default chart object in SQL Server (2005) Business Intelligence Development Studio does not seem to have formatting options such as:

  • indication of the direction of the text labels on the x and y axis
  • adding a trend line to a histogram
  • arbitrary resizing of elements on the chart - for example, if I change the size of the chart object, everything changes accordingly, but I can’t keep the chart size the same, expanding the legend area, for example.
  • multiline chart labels

So I want to know

  • Is there a simple answer to the formatting issues mentioned above?
  • What sites / books / resources / examples would you recommend for me to expand the functionality of the chart object?

Some of my colleagues gave up stock control and bought Dundas charts.

Stock charts abbreviate Dundas versions.

yes, you can specify the direction of the text labels on the x and y axis

  • Go to the chart properties, and on the x and y tab, enter the title of the chart, and in the alignment of the name, use a combination as left / right / center alignment.
  • you can change the legend line, go to the "Properties" tab in the "Graph properties" tab, there is an option for "displaying the legend inside the plot area", and you can include a trend line there.
  • you can use multi-line text labels when text limits expand

I would recommend using the dundas chart gbn components. If possible, at least this article should solve the problem 1.
