Does anyone have useful links that can be used to use a web service using flex? The simpler the solution, the better

Try http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/langref/mx/rpc/soap/mxml/WebService.html for SOAP services. You just need to specify the WSDL location and event handlers and call the service.

Flex Builder 3 comes with code generation tools that let you create ActionScript objects that match the server-side transfer object that the wbd eb service opens. It can make your life easier when working with web services. Here is a good review of Zee Yang .

Brian Riley and Clint Moden wrote an open source tool called VOFactory that lets you throw wsdl objects into actionscript objects on the fly.
