How to remove .NET Compact Framework from a Windows Mobile 5 device?

I'm trying to get some third-party apps to work on my Windows Mobile 5 smartphone.

I installed the latest version (3.5) of the Microsoft.NET Compact Framework, but whenever I start the application, I get an error message that says: "This application [Application Name] requires a newer version of the Microsoft.NET Compact Framework, than the version installed on this device. "

Given that I supposedly successfully installed the latest version, this makes no sense, and it seems to me that I need to remove the .NET Compact Framework and start over. (I tried reinstalling it, but as far as I can tell, there is no automated way to remove it on the device or from my PC.)

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I need to do? Thank!

It's probably best not to delete, and if it's on a device in ROM, you still can't delete it.

There are several options available to you.

  • Different versions of CF coexist well, so you can install an older version and leave 3.5 on it.
  • CF can be set for compatibility mode. This means that you can say that only one application compiled from the old version uses 3.5 modes of operation in compatibility mode, or you can install this system-wide interface so that all old CF applications run 3.5 EE in compatibility mode again.
