Renaming / displaying Cygwin folders

Is it safe to rename the cygdrive folder? In addition, I would like to add other folders to the root folder and map them to the folders on the windows in the same way as / cygdrive / c on my C drive. Is this possible?

Yes, you can. See the Cygwin mount table in the Cygwin documentation. I have a document folder set as / doc. These mounts get into the registry and are saved during reboots, etc.
