SQL Express has a larger database size than the previous MSDE product (4Gb vs 2Gb), so it’s great, as Slavo said for testing and small applications. SQL Server 2005 is updated through Microsoft Update, which is good or bad depending on your point of view.

PIVOT / UNPIVOT operators have become a big victory for me.

PIVOT rotates row-based output into columns, which is a huge help for many of our reporting needs. We had to collapse our own functions for PIVOT before SQL 2005.
