Publish Against Copy

What is the difference between publishing a website with a visual studio and just copying files to a server? The only difference is that the publication files are precompiled?

There are not many differences between “publishing” and copying files. Publish appears in the web application. The only difference is that the publication gives you the option to include only html and dll, where for copying you need to manually parse the source code. There is no full pre-compilation in the publication variant, since a fully pre-compiled one means no HTML at all; Aspx files are just placeholders; All html are in compiled binaries.
