What is the best way to transfer data to a Flex diagram from a Ruby on Rails application?

Several methods are enough to transfer data to the Flex binary file from the Rails application. Right now, I'm using the old e4x resultFormat with the xml.erb template. I did AMF before, but I feel that embedding parameters in the embedding itself is the best solution because you don't have to wait for the browser to download the swf binary and the binary to make the web request.

With all of this in mind, what is the best practice for rendering a Flex widget with a Rails connector these days?
