Should you run one or more applications for the tomcat cluster?

I am currently setting up an application that can deploy other web applications for Tomcat 6 clusters. It is configured right now to have a one-to-one relationship between the deployed web application and the cluster. My current argument for this is that I can change the Tomcat server JVM arguments without disrupting other applications, and therefore memory usage in one application will not conflict with other applications.

The question is, what is considered best practice in terms of clusters of tomcat instances? If you have only one application for each cluster or several applications, for example, in one tomcat instance environment? Or does it depend on the size of your application?

thank

I learned from experience that having only one application for a Tomcat instance has a very important advantage: when a Tomcat instance dies, you don’t have to dig into the logs (or guess) which application is to blame.
