What do I look for when I hire a director of operations?

We are a small (20 people) but growing Internet agency, and we decided that it was time for the Director of Operations. The CTO and one project manager (who moves from project management to product development) handles most of the heavy lifting.

  • Which personality type is better?
  • Should they have a technical background (as a programmer? As a system administrator?)
  • Is age important? Should we search for someone over 30 years old?
  • Are there any specific types of hobbies, environment, other external indicators that show that someone is a goddess / goddess (I know how to find a technique / creative, but not an operation).
