How to solve a single step problem with VS2008 SP1

Visual Studio debugging seems to have been broken with sp1. A single step randomly does not work and only starts to work. Sometimes breakpoints are ignored. It is unpredictable and unsuitable. Usually he gets to the first breakpoint, but after that he is completely unpredictable.

Any idea what needs to be done to fix this behavior?

Make sure you debug using the debug configuration, not the version. Also make sure optimization is disabled in the debug configuration.

Optimization must be turned off during debugging, otherwise it can lead to very erratic behavior like these.
