Oracle SQL Developer does not respond when trying to view tables (or offers an Oracle Mac client)

I just get a beach ball all day (he didn't do anything for hours). It does not accept the processor, does not read from the disk, and does not use the network.

I am using Java 1.6 on Mac OS X 10.5.4 . It worked once, now even restarting the computer will not help. The activity monitor says that it is "(not responding)." The only thing I can do is kill -9, which joins.

When I look at the process, I see the following:

    mach_msg_trap 16620
    read 831
    semaphore_wait_trap 831

A valid answer that does not fix this will include the URL for the free Oracle client for Mac.

Edit: @Mark Harrison sadly this happens every time I run it, this is not an old connection. I would like to avoid running windows on my laptop. I give some plugins for my IDE whirlwind, but for me it's still not a solution. @Matthew Schinckel Navicat seems to have only a non-profit Oracle product ... I need a commercially friendly (even if it costs money).

I get the same problem after the active connection has been idle for some time. I solve it by restarting the SQL developer once in a while.

I also have Toad for Oracle running on a vmware XP session and it works great. If you don't mind money, try this.

Use RazorSQL . Do yourself a favor and spend 60 bucks. He will pay for himself in the first hours or two. You can even get 60 days for free.

The latest version of SQL Developer is very good, and I had no problems with it on my Mac Pro. DB Solo 3 is also good.
