What does "back pressure" mean in Rxjava?

I am starting RxJava.

I am curious about the meaning of "BackPressure".

Does this mean that the producer puts pressure on the consumer back?

Or does this mean that consumers put pressure on manufacturers? (Pressure in the opposite direction)

RxJava Backpressure

When you have an observable that emits objects so fast that the consumer cannot keep up with the flow leading to the existence of emitted but not scruffy objects.

As uncontrolled items that are emitted by observable but not consumed subscribers, they are managed and controlled, with which they have a backpressure strategy.
