Java.lang.NoSuchMethodError when running a test with Junit 5

Question

I created a simple test to try Junit 5:

import org.junit.jupiter.api.Test;
public class MyTest {

    @Test
    public void testJupiter() {
        System.out.println("test");
    }
}

This is the dependency I am using:

        <dependency>
            <groupId>org.junit.jupiter</groupId>
            <artifactId>junit-jupiter-api</artifactId>
            <version>5.0.0</version>
            <scope>test</scope>
        </dependency>

The stack trace is as follows:

Any ideas what went wrong?

I see that you are using IntelliJ, which only supports certain versions of jUnit5.

Try for example.

<version>5.0.0-M4</version>

Besides dependency, have you also configured the JUnit5 plugin in yours pom.xml? It should look like this (taken from the docs ):
