Kafka - Several consumers (only one active) in the same group / topic

Question

Is it possible that several copies of the application are listening to the same Kafka group / theme, so that only one reads it at a time, while the others will start working if the main failure / stops counting?

I need to make the application highly accessible, but cannot transfer the doubling of traffic to the data store at the other end of the application, actively working with multiple copies.

FYI - Technically, I use MapR streams, but it adheres to the Kafka API and functionality, in case someone knows the stream-specific MapR information that helps the situation.
