Does Google Container Engine support Kubernetes locking?

The Google Container Engine (GKE) documentation says: "There's no vendor lock-in, you can download your workloads from the Container Engine for free and run them anywhere Kubernetes is supported, including on your own local servers."

However, GKE is a managed environment for Kubernetes, and I was wondering how difficult it would be to unload your workloads from GKE, say, after 2-3 years and run them in their own premises. What do you need to pay to maintain maximum portability?

Your workloads will be migrated from GKE without significant changes; the only thing you need to change is to bind the clouds to the provider (input, persistent volumes, etc.). Please note that this is one and the same, regardless of whether you work in GKE or GCE, AWS, Digital Ocean - when moving the environment you will need to make small changes to the definition of workload, if and where it is directly related to the environment .
