I am testing Erlang and asking a few questions regarding distribution security. (There is a lot of mixed information). This type of question contains a lot of opinions related to situations, and depends on the level of personal comfort on the type of data you are dealing with. For the sake of this question, let's assume that this is a simple chat server on which users can connect and chat together.
Example Chart: 
The cluster will be located behind the VPC private subnet with elastic load balancing, directing all connections to these nodes (from and to). Elastic load balancing will be the only direct way to these nodes (it would be impossible to connect to the node via the @privatesubnet name).
