Xcode allows you to create a sprite atlas from within Assets.xcassets, is it an atlas?

If you are in the Assets.cxassets folder and click the plus sign, you can, among other things, add a new sprite atlas and / or a new folder.

when you create a sprite atlas or folder from this menu, they look the same. I got the impression that in the atlas folder should be the suffix ".atlas" at the end of it?

I read that using a sprite atlas is usually better for many repeating textures on the screen. I created the "sprite atlas" inside Assets.cxassets when I started my project and put all my images in this folder.

The more I read about it, the more I think that I did it wrong. I can not find a single thing on the Internet about the presence of your atlas folder in Assets.cxassets. and when I created the atlas folder, as I mentioned above, it did not have the suffix ".atlas", it just had the common name "sprites"

I also use all these tile set sprites, use .atlas in the usual tile set practice?

Thanks for all the tips.

Yes, this is a real atlas.

When you open the asset catalog from your own Project Managerand add things like atlases, groups (folders) or, say Watch Complication, they may look the same for you in Xcode ...
