What is Azure Lease Blob? Is it just a mechanism that provides exclusive blocking of blob storage?
Your understanding is correct. When you rent a binary large object, you acquire an exclusive lock for this large binary object. While a large object is being leased, no one except the owner of the lease can modify or delete a large object. You can purchase temporary lease, the duration of which can be from 15 to 60 seconds, or infinite lease.
Where can i use this?
Most often, this feature is used by Azure virtual machines. As you know, Azure virtual machines are supported by Azure Page Blocks. Thus, when a virtual machine is created, an infinite lease is acquired for a blob containing a virtual hard drive for this Azure virtual machine, so no other process can modify or delete this blob.
