How to create a magazine app on iOS 9 and later?

Prior to iOS 9, the correct way to create a magazine app was to use NewsstandKit . However, with iOS 9, there have been some changes to the Newsstand, and it looks like the Newsstand is on its way to obsolescence. The reasons for this are my thoughts:

  • On the Newsstand page , Apple News is approved for publishing content.
  • The Newsstand folder is deleted on iOS 9.
  • There are no Newsstand tutorials in Swift. Not on Apple pages, not on RayWenderlich, anywhere.
  • From the two available tutorials on Newsstand (written by the same author in Objective-C), the author says that Newsstand is out of date and new applications should not be developed using NewsstandKit. (Corresponding Disqus comment by the author) However, the author does not say how to develop magazine applications on iOS 9 or later.

So my question is:

  • How to create a magazine app on iOS 9 or later?
  • What are the sources for developing magazine apps on iOS 9 or later?

Please note that the ability to create a magazine app without using Apple News is important because Apple News is only available in Australia, the UK, and the United States since this post was written.
