R Tools for Visual Studio does not install properly in VS2017

I tried to install "R-Tools for Visual Studio" in visual studio 2017 as described in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/visualstudio/rtvs/installation#installation-in-visual-studio-2017 , but after installation, nothing is displayed in VS2017. The description on this web page incorrectly describes the installation user interface: in paragraph 3 it is indicated that "Support for the R language", "Runtime support for developing R" and "Microsoft R client" are selected, but only the latest version is available as an option - the first two not found anywhere. I am trying to install it on VS 2017 pro, on Windows 7.

I also tried installing for VS 2015, and this seems to work fine.

Does anyone know if I am doing something wrong, if the installer is listening, or is something else going on?

This has been reported as an error in the RTVS Github repository.

Customers reported that R in VS 2017 Data Science Workload was blocked from installing on Windows 7. We checked this problem and prepared a fix for the next Visual Studio 2017 update.

We are currently working with the Visual Studio team to install this hotfix as soon as possible.
