Bazel BUILD files conflict with assembly / folder

Question

I am moving my Cmake project to Bazel. At the root of my project is the folder buildthat I use to run Cmake.

To upgrade to Bazel , I need to create a file buildin the root of my project. However, on macOS, I cannot create it due to the presence of my folder build.

Can I use a different name for Bazel files build? Or do I need to get rid of my folder build?

Bazel also supports the use of BUILD.bazel as the name of the file that should solve this problem (BUILD.bazel is preferable if both BUILD.bazel and BUILD exist).
