Failed to start a new Android studio project.

Question

When I click the “new project” button in Android 2.3 studio, nothing happens, and I get the following entry in idea.log:

WARN - ctions.AndroidNewProjectAction - Unable to launch New Project Wizard 
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Gradle plugin missing from the offline Maven repo

Work offline in gradle is disabled. Any other ideas?

I spent several hours to solve this problem. A simple reinstallation of Android-studio 2.3 (without a new download) made it work at the end.
