SSMS 2014 randomly starts throwing "Value is not in expected range" when using backspace key

Question

By accident, when I write SQL queries in SSMS 2014, I get a pop-up window in which "Visual Studio encountered an exception." This may be caused by the extension "along with a hint that I can run the application with the / log option and check the ActivityLog.xml file created somewhere in my user AppData directory.

After this popup, IntelliSense stops updating, and turning it on / off has no effect (any errors still underlined by red squiggly lines, etc., including their mouseover popup windows, remain undefined). Note that this happens even without errors in my script.

But this is not a problem, since I get the error "The value is not in the expected range" EVERY TIME I press the BACKSPACE key , although the Delete key works just fine.

This problem was absent until several months after I started using the application.

The workaround so far has been to copy the request to a new request window (immediately working) or wait for it to stop accidentally. Therefore, the problem is isolated from the query window .
