NiFi: view stream file

I'm just starting out with NiFi, and it's great when everything works the first time.

When something fails, I would like to view the stream file or the output (stdout + stderr) from the problem processor. Is there an easy way to reset all properties of a stream file or just view the stream file?

It seems to me that I missed something incredibly obvious, but most tutorials just go, although there are examples where everything works in the first place.
