How can I reuse an app id in Google App Engine?

I uninstalled one of my applications on GAE, called my-application-id.appspot.com to reuse the identifier. Before I gave OK to delete, I received this message:

Do you want to request a permanent removal of your application? if you click the button below, you will have 72 hours to change your mind. After this time, the data and application status will be unavailable, and you cannot return it. However, the application identifier (my-application-id) will remain reserved approximately forever.

The last sentence implies that I can reuse the identifier, right? But my attempt to create a new application with this identifier failed. How can I reuse an identifier?

Unfortunately, no, you cannot reuse it. After the application identifier is reserved, regardless of whether the application has been deleted, it cannot be used for a new application.
