What is the advantage of setting java.awt.headless = true?

The benefits of using this flag are nowhere to be explained.

Is it a performance gain? If so, is there even a rough estimate, what will be the gain in productivity? (I know that the answers to questions about performance are completely case-specific, but it would be nice to find out if someone has reported good benefits from this).
