Authentication Error connecting to Gmail using imap using oauth token

I am writing a script that uses a authenticated Google login. Currently, I get the access token and user email address and pass it to my function, which connects to gmail using imap and then does some things with emails. I generate an auth string, as I saw others doing online, but I get this error:
