Is OpenCV a flat panorama for cubic or equiangular projection?

I was stuck with this problem for about 2 months, tried every relevant publication, blog and tutorial that I could find there. please, help:

I have a flat panorama image that I want to convert to cubeMap or Equirectangular format. I used some SO posts to create an equiangular image from cubeMap and vice versa. And I can do it, but all this requires a 360 degree image in one form or another. The question is how to prepare a cubic map from a flat panorama in the first place?

I also saw ways to make cubeMap / equirectangular projection to / from FishEye. But it was not possible to find if there is a way to create an equiangular projection from a flat image.
